Verdi's third opera, Nabucco, deals with a biblical theme from the Old Testament and is one of the most frequently performed operas ever, with themes of the desire for power, freedom and love. The story of the opera tells about a religiously motivated war and expulsion from home. When Verdi, who was only twenty-eight years old, premiered his work at Milan's La Scala in 1842, it was a huge success and thus started his path to fame.
